July Meeting Recap

Cache LGBTQ+ Collective Stickers

In July’s meeting, we discussed using stickers of the purple flower icon from our logo to help denote allied spaces, particularly local businesses. We chose the purple flower because it’s a subtle way to display support to the LGBTQ+ community for businesses who are currently not displaying pride flags or other “loud” messaging.

We may have these stickers available soon and we’ll need help dispersing them! Come to our upcoming Collective meetings if you’re interested in helping us with this task.

Additionally we are in the process of designing stickers with the flower icon that includes one petal with varying pride flags!

Cache LGBTQ+ Collective Benefit Concert

We’re still working on planning a benefit concert for the Collective. We previously hoped to host this event mid-September, but we’re looking into later dates to give us more time to plan.

We’re looking to hire one or two more musicians to play at the show, and we’re eager to support queer artists! So please let us know if you have suggestions for local talent that could perform an hour long set for this event.

We will be discussing more details in our upcoming meeting!

Onboarding for the Cache LGBTQ+ Collective

Help us get to know you! Our Community Steward, Jeremy Clark, has created a survey to so we can:

  • Add you to communications

  • Understand your interests and skills so we can connect you with relevant projects, people or roles

  • Understand what drew you in and how you’re hoping to get involved

Scan the QR code to fill out the survey!

Guest Speaker: Holly Bell (she/they)

We had an incredible opportunity to hear from Holly Bell, the Student & Family Rights Specialist with the Utah State Board of Education. Please see the “Resource Highlight” in this newsletter to see resources that may be applicable to LGBTQ+ youth here in Utah.

Resource Highlight

🔗 Student and Family Rights Resources - A list of resources put out by the Utah State Board of Education. USBE states that educators must create a safe learning environment conducive to the learning process, where students are accepted and valued as members of the school community with equal opportunities to contribute by creating conditions for meaningful participation.

Through this link, you can learn about policies regarding:

  • Civil rights

  • Equal opportunity in education

  • Open and resolved investigations

  • School climate/discipline resources

  • and more!

We hope this website could give you some insight into how you can advocate for LGBTQ+ youth, fight for better policies, and equip you with a better understanding of your rights.

Take Action!

What you can do to make positive change for LGBTQ folks in Cache Valley?

  • Attend local school board meetings

  • 5 Calls App: The "5 Calls" app is a civic engagement tool that simplifies contacting elected officials. Find out about current issues, identifies your representatives, and find scripts to help you communicate your views via phone calls. Make your voice heard!

  • City Elections are going on right now!

  • Consider how you can support those who are allies in your community! Special shoutout to teachers that you know who support our queer youth. ❤️

Thank you for reading! We look forward to seeing you at our next Collective meeting on the 26th of this month.

During the meeting, we’ll be planning for our fundraiser concert, talking other upcoming events, and more!
