January Meeting Recap

Discussion Topics

Last month, we discussed 2026 goals for the Collective. Those goals included:

  • Developing simple systems for donations and volunteer opportunities

  • Simplifying things as much as possible

  • Collaborating more, to do less on our own

  • Spreading awareness about the Collective to more people

  • Keeping the LGBTQ+ community in Cache Valley connected and increasing access to resources/community

  • Identifying areas of greatest need and impact and taking action there

We also spoke about the Utah Legislative Session and ways to get involved. If you missed it, weโ€™ve got your back! We added some helpful info later in this newsletter.

LGBTQ+ Love

Valentineโ€™s Day tends to sell us a very specific story of love. Within the queer community, weโ€™re lucky to witness love expressed in many ways, and each one meaningful and worthy of celebration.

We celebrate polyamorous love, which is love that is built on communication, consent, and care. It recognizes the heartโ€™s ability to connect deeply with more than one person, and the many ways commitment can look when itโ€™s defined by the people in it.

We celebrate asexual and aromantic identities, and the authenticity that come from knowing how (or if) attraction fits into your life. Recognizing that love can be rooted in friendship, shared values, creativity, community, or self-connection, and none of it needs romance to be real and fulfilling.

We celebrate platonic partnerships, relationship anarchists, and those who are single by choice or circumstance, but never alone. We celebrate friendships that feel like soulmates and community groups that give you a sense of belonging.

Whatever this February looks like for you, you belong here. Your way of being is worthy of celebration, today and always! ๐Ÿ’œ

Utahโ€™s Legislative Session

Utahโ€™s legislative session officially began on January 20th, and continues until March 6th. We understand that many people feel overwhelmed with state politics, and it can be challenging to get involved. There are many powerful ways to make your voice heard, and we encourage you to involve yourself however youโ€™re able to.

Here are two resources that will help keep you updated!

#1: This is a link to a bill tracker specifically for bills with trans topics: https://translegislation.com/bills/2026/UT)

#2: Landis from Cache Valley Mutual Aid made an excellent bill tracking document for Utahโ€™s legislative session! It includes links to all the bills, the ability to add your own bills, and short, easy to understand descriptions of the bill text. This is welcome to be shared anywhere, as long as you include the caveat that the makers (and likely anyone contributing to this document) are not lawyers or experts, so people should fact-check descriptions and use critical thinking skills. These bills do include biases and personal perspectives, and there are times when a "bad" bill and an "OK" bill are a very thin line. None of these bills are perfect and all point to larger injustices in our system, so there is not a category for good bills, just better ones.

Check it out!
