Cache LGBTQ+ Collective - Sustainability Roles

Discussion

We had some great discussions at the last meeting! Here’s a brief recap of what we talked about:

  • Changing our name! Like we mentioned early, we proposed a name change at this meeting to go from being the Cache LGBTQ+ Advocacy Coalition to the Cache LGBTQ+ Collective!

  • Hosting a back-to-school family event at a local park

    • Event for families, parents, and educators to get together and access resources, make friends, and have fun before the school year starts again

    • Opportunity for new people to hear about the Collective and for folks who haven’t been able to come to get more involved

  • Discussion about Summer Camps

    • Jessica (she/her) brought up the topic of creating a local summer camp for LGBTQ+ kids and adolescents in the valley

    • If you’re interested in getting involved, let us know!

  • Preparing for Logan Pride in September

    • Cameron (they/them) is sponsoring us at Logan Pride this year! We need to come up with decoration ideas and collect some tabling materials.

    • It would be ideal to have fun activities or things folks can get at our booth. If you have an idea, please let us know!

  • Summer schedule for meetings & locations - evenings at Cache Pride Center? At a park or other fun place? At the library?

    • Let us know what you would prefer!

Special Topic - Guardian ad Litem

In general, if a minor between 16-18 wants to change their gender on their birth certificate, even with parental permission, there MUST be a Private Guardian ad Litem involved.

The state of Utah has been making many changes to the way Family Law works and it’s impacting Trans youth, their families, and professionals in the justice system. One such impactful change is that during a divorce case, a child’s gender identity and a parent being affirming/un-affirming toward a child cannot be considered in who should have custody.

There are many Guardian ad Litems who disagree with these changes, and want to make sure people know how to access these now mandatory services for free. Click the Download button below to access a complete list of PGALs (Private Guardian ad Litems) in the state of Utah. The names with two red asterisks ** are those who are willing to do Pro Bono (free) work to help a minor get a legal sex change on their birth certificate.
